The Montreal media were recently invited behind the scenes to discover the NFB’s new Conservation Rooms (otherwise known as “vaults”), located in the borough of St. Laurent. It’s there that we carefully preserve some 190,000 film-related items in state-of-the art conditions: film reels of all gauges, from 8mm to IMAX, magnetic sound reels, LTO tapes, cassettes of all formats, photographs and artifacts created and accumulated in our 85 years—including original art works and even Oscar trophies. Now more than ever, the NFB is an important repository of Canadian creation and heritage.
