The "Noronic" fire (Toronto, 18/09/1949): shots of the "Noronic" leaving on Great Lakes cruise, returning, passengers waving from decks. Shots of smoking hulk of the "Noronic" tied up at pier on Toronto waterfront, smoke coming out of port holes, firemen moving about, directing streams of water against the hull, clambering cautiously aboard. Sequence on firemen removing bodies from hulk, putting them into ambulances. Shots of utter devastation, men still looking for bodies amidst debris, Royal York Hotel visible in distant background in some shots. Shots of fire chief and man tentatively identified as mayor of Toronto. HALS of crowd of curious watching from some distance away. Cut to shots of women, one in each case, being assisted into hospital, being taken care of. Sequence on funeral ceremonies (Mount Pleasant Cemerery, 20/01/1950) for the last 26 victims of the "Noronic" fire showing Leslie Frost of Ontario, Dana Porter, US Consul Russell, mayor McCallum of Toronto, police chief Chisholm and coroner Lawson. Shots of Protestant, Roman Catholic, Jewish and Salvation Army services, of wreaths laying.
