Construction of birchbark canoe; MS and CS, with spruce root lace, Atikamekw man binds pieces of cedar together and bends whole to shape one end of canoe. MS and CS, he pulls spruce root lace from barrel of boiling water and cuts and dresses it with knife before threading it through structure. MCS, he places structure at one end of canoe and wraps two pieces of bark around it. CS, ZOOM IN and CU, he cuts two pieces of bark at one end of canoe. CU and TRAVELLING SHOT, he pierces two pieces of bark and inserts wooden pin to join them. MS, he pierces gunwales and bark and threads spruce root laces through canoe structure to attach point.
