Construction of birchbark canoe; MCS, spruce gum mixed with animal fat is pressed down into cast iron pan. MS, MCS and CU, gum is applied by Atikamekw man using applicator and finger to fill cracks in bark of canoe, join birch pieces or protect seams. MCS, gum edge is applied at one end of canoe, then sealed with hot blade.
