VARIOUS SHOTS in Bali, Indonesia, where women are working in cooperatives, dredging silt from a river. This soil is going to the terraces where rice is grown. A woman pulls the silt out of the river with a shovel and generously fills a basket that another woman takes and puts on her head, after giving an empty one back to the first woman. The second woman walks a certain distance and meets up with another woman carrying an empty basket. They exchange baskets and then each woman changes direction, one going to pass on the full basket to another woman, the other one going back to the river to pick up another load. This is how the silt is gradually carried from the river up to a road where we see women loading the silt on to trucks.
