VARIOUS SHOTS, Alcan aluminum smelter, Arvida. Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, on an official trip to Canada in 1959, visit the world’s largest aluminum smelter. Alcan president Edward Davis hosts the royal couple, giving them a tour of the smelter. They observe various activities, especially the pouring of an aluminum ingot. The officials all wear safety goggles except for the queen, who wears a hat and merely places the goggles in front of her eyes from time to time.
