VARIOUS SHOTS taken at Îles de la Madeleine (Magdalen Islands): in the central room of a house, equipped with a large wood stove, a girl and boy seated at a table do their homework. An elderly woman sits in a rocking chair near them, knitting. In the background, seen through an open door, two women and a man, fairly old, are in the kitchen. The man rises, exits the kitchen and walks toward the children. He takes a lamp hanging above the table and brightens it. A small boy comes up to the man, as he pulls up a straight-backed chair and sits down. The man sits the little boy on his knee and talks to him, smiling and smoking a cigarette. In the same room, with the grandmother knitting and the children doing their homework, the man converses with another man seated in front of him. A woman exits the kitchen and picks up a kettle from the wood stove. The grandmother interrupts her knitting to speak to the children, who look up from their homework. A man dressed elegantly in a suit and tie comes down the stairs and enters a room with a mirror and washbasin. He carefully combs his hair as he looks in the mirror.
